Joan Rusitzky
Fine Beaded Jewelry Designer And Fiber Artist
Joan Rusitzky graduated from Syracuse University with a bachelor’s degree in clothing and textiles. She is an accomplished jewelry designer, weaver, fabric artist, and surface designer. Her work is diverse, but united by her command over color and design – whether weaving, painting on silk, dyeing fabric with the shibori technique, or turning a collection of beads into a vibrant flowing necklace.
In 1990, Joan received a grant from the Rochester Arts Council for a project at the Rochester Friendly Home, a residential facility for senior citizens. She designed segmented wall pieces for the residents to weave out of ripped cotton. The first wall hanging she designed hangs at the Friendly Home. The Home asked her to design two more for the residents to weave: an additional one for the home itself and the other for the Ronald McDonald House in Rochester. Joan was recognized for these projects with an outstanding alumni award from Syracuse University.
Joan lives in Rochester, NY with her husband. When not making her own art, she enjoys visiting galleries, studios and museums to view other artists’ work. She travels as much as she can -- for pleasure and inspiration.
