"I find grace in the organic forms around us. But the metal, itself, is my main inspiration. I start with a notion of an idea, and let the metal guide me to its end result."
"I attempt to create pieces that interact with those who wear them, to become part of their composition. Not just adorn them. Jewelry can be much more than mere ornamentation. It can be a talisman, a personal reflection, a heritage, or an evocation of emotion to its bearer. I strive for my work to be beautiful, and beyond that, personal."
Sara Lalik began working with metal at the age of 18 through an apprenticeship with Colleen Bins, and continued by taking numerous courses at the Memorial Art Gallery. She furthered her education at Nazareth College of Rochester, studying under many wonderful professors and artists, including Lynn Duggan. After graduating with her bachelors degree, she was privileged to work for two different local artists; Karen Brown Goldsmiths; and Chip Arnold Jewelry.
Sara remains local and works from her studio in the small village of Scottsville, NY.
Handbags: Recently Sara
has begun working with leather to create some beautiful handbags! Sara starts by pyrographing (branding) the leather with the design, then
she dyes, paints, and finishes the piece with several layers of a protective
coat. You will find Sara's handbags at the bottom of this page.
